New Dawn is a secret project planned by Philip Burton.

Philip first mentioned it to Connor Temple in what he thought would be his final words, as the room he is in is running out of air. He starts to explain what it is but faints before he can complete it. Later, when the day has been saved and Connor asks about it, Philip says he'll tell him another time. (Episode 4.3)

Phillip takes Connor to a Prospero facility, presenting the New Dawn Machine to him, making him promise not to tell any of the ARC personnel. He tells Connor that when the project is finished, it will make sense of the anomalies, and make use of them. He says it will solve the greatest problem facing mankind to date; he explains that the anomalies are a resource, saying they have been so distracted by the creatures that they haven't seen it until now. He aims to produce clean, safe, unlimited energy for the whole world. (Episode 5.1)

In Episode 5.3, Connor completes a smaller version of New Dawn in his office that creates the First Man-made Anomaly. During the events of Episode 5.4, a colony of swarming future beetles crawl through the anomaly and swarm the ARC. After Matt Anderson destroys the machine, Connor uses a hard drive Abby took to reopen the anomaly and release a gamma ray burst that kills the beetles.

Later, Philip leaves Connor at the mercy of a Kaprosuchus to start New Dawn running. Connor and the team attempt to sabotage New Dawn, but they fail and Connor falls through the huge anomaly into the sterile Earth future. When New Dawn starts causing bizzare atmospheric changes, Philip sacrifices himself in order to blow it up, but the anomaly stays active. When the miniature New Dawn anomaly reopens, Matt contains it in a magnetic case and puts it on a truck before driving it through New Dawn. The anomaly implodes and New Dawn is destroyed, presumably negating the Sterile Earth timeline and apparently saving the Future. (Episode 5.6)
