Facts and Biology
Edit
The worms have features of the priapulid predator worm Ottoia prolifica, i.e. an extensible proboscis with teeth, but much bigger than any known Ottia.
Their body looks rather like a sea cucumber. In the Cambrian, priapulid worms grew to much bigger sizes than nowadays (though there is no evidence that they gre to the size of the worms seen in the show) and were one of the dominant predators.
The worms originated from the Precambrian, and can only breathe in sulphur gases given off in their environment. The worms are blind but have a good sense of smell, touch and possibly hearing. The worms are apparently also carnivorous. Their spit is a black tar like substance which might help locate prey though this is not proven. They also have rows of sharp teeth on their tongues.
The worms can't survive in an oxygenated atmosphere and they explode when they come into contact with a mix of oxygen and heat. Their young are inside their bodies and may be parasites, as after their parents died and released them, they each made a fleeting attempt to burrow into a new host's skin.

Episode 2.2
Edit
An anomaly opens from the Precambrian to 2007, in a gleaming new skyscraper in the centre of the city, and the poisonous Precambrian atmosphere pours through into the building. A large number of worms also come through the anomaly, killing a janitor who discovers the anomaly. When a fire crew of two later find the anomaly as well, they are attacked by the worms, which kill one of them.
The skyscraper is evacuated due to the staff mistaking the Precambrian fog for smoke from a fire, but in one glass-walled meeting room a group of executives refuse to leave, as they are in a middle of an important video conference that will decide the future of their company. Terry, the man leading the company, eventually leaves the meeting room to investigate, and is attacked and killed by the worms.

Added by Skittles the hogLater, Cutter and Stephen arrive at the skyscraper's cafeteria, and are attacked by a worm which Cutter kills with a fire axe. Cutter and Stephen, along with a fire woman, escape the cafeteria, pursued by another worm. The worm grabs the fire woman by her ankle, but Cutter and Stephen jam the cafeteria door in the worm's proboscis. Separated from the fog, the worm quickly dies. Shortly after, Cutter and Stephen are separated when two worms attack them from a lift, and Stephen narrowly escapes into a lift shaft by distracting the worms with his wristwatch's alarm.
Later, Jenny arrives at the skyscraper, and is attacked by a worm which Cutter decapitates with a katana. Moments later, another worm catches Cutter off-guard and tries to eat into his leg before Jenny returns the favor to Cutter by decapitating the worm with the katana.
Later, the two remaining executives remain in the meeting room, which the fog is quickly seeping into. Eventually, a worm opens the meeting room's door, but one of the executives fends it off by beating it with a laptop. The team then find the executives and try to evacuate the building with them, using leaf blowers to hold back the fog. While the team is leaving the building, Connor is attacked by a worm which swallows his head in the stairwell. Cutter saves Connor by cutting the worm in half with the katana he and Jenny wielded.

Added by MrThermomanPreacherHowever, the heat also causes the worms to explode, releasing their parasitic young. Cutter sets off the building's fire sprinklers with a lighter, bringing the temperature back down and killing the worms' spawn.
Episode 5.5
Edit
An anomaly opens in a classroom through which the Precambrian fog pours through, allowing Fog Worms to come slithering into the classroom. Abby and Becker are called in to deal with the creatures. The duo are successfully able to quarantine the animals, though their ultimate fates are unknown.
Trivia
Edit
- These creatures come farther back in time than any other animal the team encountered.
- They are the first and only creature to be killed by Jenny Lewis.
- It has been speculated that the real life prehistoric worm Ottoia is the young of the Fog Worms. This is unlikely as Ottoia lived in the water.
- Along with Dromaeosaurus, Future Predators and the Columbian Mammoth, the Fog Worms are the only Series 2 creatures to reappear in Series 5.
- The Fog Worms are the first invertebrates in Series 2.
- The Fog Worms in 5.5 are the only creatures in the Convergence that are not clearly seen. This may be due to the fog that came with them. Also, their shadows briefly appear.
