Dave was Valerie Irwin's boyfriend. He and Valerie found and raised a Smilodon cub, but sometime later when it was fully grown, it killed him when he "got careless". Valerie buried Dave's body near Blue Sky Park in order to keep the Smilodon a secret. Around a week to a month later, Nick Cutter found his body when the Anomaly Research Centre team were in the process of digging holes in order to trap the Smilodon. Nick found a mud-laden wallet in Dave's trouser pocket, and when he saw the photo inside, he realised Valerie was the one who was hiding the Smilodon. (Episode 2.3)
